The Saint of Kfifan

He was still alive when people who knew him called him "The Saint of Kfifan". His holiness was evident to them from his monastic life, his Christian actions, and his normal daily activities. The people approved him holiness before Rome. Rome approved after thoroughly studying his life and his extra-ordinary manifestations.

From the time that Youssef Girgis Kassab Al-Hardini decided to enter the monastic life of the Lebanese Maronite Order, following the example of his brother the hermit Father Alisha. He decided at that moment to follow the road to holiness. He never stopped looking for the face of God until he became one with God in his life.

The extra-ordinary holiness of Nimatullah Kassab Al-Hardini was unique because of his not so extra-ordinary activities. He possessed ordinary Christian qualities. He maintained his normal daily monastic duties and humbly accepted all the difficulties faced in a life of a monastic community.

He looked for God in a continuous was in the faces of his brothers and he humbled himself in loving them. He was nourished in the Eucharist as the best nourishment. He honored Mary as a mother, without whose intercession there is no salvation for him.

Besides all this his holiness was exemplified by fulfilling his daily duties, humbly respecting both young and old. Obediently performing every duty asked of him. Performing sacrifices in fond clothing and accepting responsibilities in difficult situation. Lifting all things in hands to the level of a Holy sacrifice.

This is Father Nimatullah Kassab Al-Hardini an extra-ordinary man made holy in a normal life though normal actions. After all we have seen from "The Saint of Kfifan", we should become like him and follow in his footsteps. The obstacles we face are from us an not from God.
